Inutile de présenter Gilles Losier. Véritable légende de la musique folklorique canadienne, il a été pendant plus de vingt ans le pianiste accompagnateur de l’incomparable Jean Carignan. Maxim Bergeron, pour sa part, a été initié à la musique traditionnelle des violoneux québécois à l’âge de 7 ans, en participant au Camp Violon Trad Québec. Il s’est ensuite épris de la musique de Jean Carignan, ce qui l’a réuni avec Gilles dans une passionnante et enrichissante collaboration.   L’album «rappel» a été enregistré à Montréal au cours de l’été 2019. À ce moment-là, Maxim a tout juste 15 ans et Gilles vient d’avoir 83 ans. C’est une rare occasion pour eux de jouer ensemble, puisque Gilles habite au Nouveau-Brunswick, tandis que Maxim vit en Allemagne. Plusieurs titres sont tirés du vaste répertoire de Jean Carignan, bien que de tels airs, dit Gilles avec regret, sont rarement joués de nos jours.   Montréal, août 2019   Un grand merci à David Gutnik et à Joan Bergeron pour avoir rendu possible cet enregistrement.

Gilles Losier needs no introduction. He is a legend in Canadian folk music, as piano accompanist to the incomparable fiddler Jean Carignan for over 20 years. Maxim Bergeron had his first taste of traditional Quebecois fiddle music at the age of 7, when he attended Camp Violon Trad Québec. He subsequently fell in love with the music of Jean Carignan, a passion that brought him together with Gilles in a rewarding collaboration.   “rappel” was recorded in Montreal in the summer of 2019 when Maxim was just 15 and Gilles had turned 83. This was one of the few opportunities when they could play together, as Gilles lives in New Brunswick and Maxim in Germany. Many of the tunes on this album were part of Jean Carignan’s immense repertoire, though Gilles says regretfully that they’re seldom played nowadays.   Montreal, August 2019   Many thanks to David Gutnik and Joan Bergeron for making this recording possible.
